Artists
Irfan Hendrian
(b.Ohio, 1987) is an artist, industrial printmaker and graphic designer known for his formal explorations in abstraction. Working mainly with paper, his interest is in the Bauhaus approach and method: to reduce, subtract and simplify everything to its most sublime, essential and substantial state.
Hendrian values efficient, logical and utilitarian modes of thinking and acting which are reflected directly in his work. Collage provides methodology that maintains Hendrian’s purist approach to materials, utilizing paper as a raw material with sculptural capabilities. Rather than creating images, he believes that through composing visual arrangement of objects, a particular aesthetic value emerges.
Since 2010 Hendrian has arranged 9 solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. His works have been featured in both public and private institutions such as the Singapore Art Museum, Jeonbuk Museum of Art and Tumurun Museum. He has also participated in various international fairs including ArtStage Singapore, SEA Focus Singapore, Taipei Dangdai, ArtJog Indonesia, Art Jakarta and Art021 Shanghai. He is a recipient of The Fondation d’entreprise Hermès grant in 2019 and Deutsche Bank Pasific grant for Leipzig International Art Programme, 2021. He is part of Gerilya Artist Collective, with them initiated a residency program located in his studio in Bandung and represented by Sullivan+Strumpf Australia & Singapore.
Iryanto Hadi
Lahir di Rembang, 17 Agustus 1962. Pendidikan formal yang didapat adalah Sarjana Teknologi Pangan dari Institut Pertanian Bogor. Kecintaan terhadap seni rupa sudah berakar sejak muda sebagai kolektor lukisan. Dari pergaulan dengan pencinta seni dan para perupa inilah kemudian dia terjun ke dalam bisnis lukisan sebagai Art Dealer.
Jhoni Saputra
(l. 1993)
Lahir di Pekanbaru, bekerja dan tinggal di Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Jhoni Saputra adalah seorang seniman visual yang pernah menempuh pendidikan di Fakultas Seni Murni di Institut Seni Indonesia, Yogyakarta. Praktiknya berfokus pada eksplorasi material dan dekonstruksi elemen seni. Ia mengekspos elemen-elemen sekunder, seperti bingkai dan kertas, menjadi pusat perhatian, mengubahnya dari pelengkap menjadi karya utama. Melalui penghancuran dan transformasi material, Jhoni mengaburkan batas antara fungsi dan makna seni, memicu refleksi kritis tentang struktur dan konteks seni. Karyanya mengangkat seni sebagai dialog antara masa lalu dan masa kini, menciptakan ruang baru untuk kebebasan interpretasi serta membuka kemungkinan baru dalam pengalaman seni kontemporer.
Jumaldi Alfi
(b. 1973, Lintau, Sumatra) is one of the most dynamic and influential artists on the
Indonesian contemporary art scene today. A painter pur sang, Alfi came to international
attention in the late ‘90s as one of the founding members of the influential art group Jendela,
whose focus on aesthetic and material exploration within a more formalist and personal
territory introduced a fresh dynamic into the world of Indonesian contemporary art.
Alfi is particularly known for his compelling personal iconography of visual signs, reflecting
existential and spiritual experience on both, an individual and collective level. In creating his
comprehensive painting series such as Blackboard Paintings or, more recently, the series of
Melting Memories, he draws on a scope of references from text to empirical objects of the
natural world to Renaissance paintings and his own memories; the effect of his work being at
once mysterious and intimate. Alfi lives and works in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and has
exhibited extensively in Indonesia as well as internationally.

Kanoko Takaya
KANOKO TAKAYA / 髙屋 佳乃子
Kanoko Takaya was born and raised in Kyoto, Japan. She was first introduced to Indonesia’s
vast variety of cultures through her mother, who would often visit Bali, Indonesia. Through
these travels, her love for Indonesian culture blossomed. After graduating from Kyoto Seika,
majoring in Visual Design, Kanoko moved to Indonesia in 2014. She continued her studies at
Indonesia University of the Arts (ISI), Surakarta (Solo), Central Java. During her two years in
Solo, Kanoko began uncovering traditional Indonesian culture in depth – particularly
fascinated by the “Bobung'' mask in Yogyakarta (Central Java) and the mask of Malang (East
Java). The Indonesian masks captivated her through the many evocative expressions;
differing from Japanese masks which show little expression in their detailed ornament. In her
third year in Indonesia, Kanoko moved to Bali and worked as an in-house artist for
Pithecanthropus under her own brand, Kanokon until late 2019.
Kanoko’s work falls between two ongoing themes referred to as the Indonesian Series and
the Inner Series. Depicting local cultures through the lens of a Japanese artist living in Bali,
the Indonesian Series visualize Kanoko’s youthful perspective. While the Inner Series
showcases an array of mediums from stone sculptures, acrylic on paper and wood to acrylic
stitched-foamed canvases. Kanoko’s fluid use of materials is part of a dynamic exploration
into the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature. Instinctively Kanoko’s abstracted
lines draw inspiration from the natural world. Organic curvatures of the filled canvas from
visual rhythm suggestive of reproductive organs. Her approach is not to speak of the
biological function of such matter, but rather to illuminate the solemn wisdom of nature as
they birth life forces unconditionally.
