Mutiara Riswari
Mutiara Riswari was born in 1998 in Semarang, Indonesia. She studied at the School of Art Yogyakarta (2013–2016) andcontinued her education at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta (2016–2019). She currently lives and works inYogyakarta.Her works are rooted in the Javanese concept of Jagad Alit (microcosmos), which views human beings as asmall reflection of the vast universe. Through this perspective, Mutiara connects local spirituality with the present moment,shaping a visual language that feels both grounded and transformative.
In her artistic practice, she explores various mediums, including soil and the body, which function as both material andmetaphor. For Mutiara, soil represents the Mother (source of life, a space that absorbs and gives birth) while the bodybecomes a vessel of memory, identity, and collective experience. Through abstract gestures and layered compositions,she creates a dialogue between humanity and nature, between the personal and the universal. Her works emerge throughcontemplative processes where intuition and material coexist, tracing emotional and temporal transformations over time.

, she presents mixed-media works that explore
how time and memory become embedded within material, revealing how unseen emotions and spiritual resonance canmanifest through the earth’s matter. Mutiara’s artistic practice continues to evolve around the themes of body, earth, andspirituality, weaving together femininity, cultural memory, and human awareness. By using soil as both material andmetaphor, Mutiara approaches painting as a contemplative process—a way to reflect on existence and our place withinthe living cosmos.
