Hyejin Min

Hyejin Min explores the ways in which color becomes memory and light becomes structure. Her paintings begin with lived experience: landscapes retained in the mind, emotional traces that resist language, and visual forms drawn from Korean material culture. Through repeated lines, layered chromatic fields, and modular compositions, she transforms recollection into a contemplative visual rhythm.

Across The Beauty of Gathering, Select and Repeat, and Glowing Colors, fragments are never merely separate. They gather, recur, and resonate until they produce a larger field of perception. Min's practice moves between the intimacy of personal memory and the collective sensibility embedded in Korean forms, creating paintings that are immediately luminous yet slowly unfolding.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work begins with the repetitive process of building layers of color and texture. Each brushstroke is more

than a physical mark; it becomes a record of accumulated time, carrying within it an invisible language of

my own. What may initially appear monochromatic is, in fact, composed of numerous layers of color and

texture, creating a subtle yet resonant depth.

Color, for me, is closely connected to memory. The colors we encounter in everyday life and nature can

awaken memories, emotions, and inner energies that remain beneath our conscious awareness. Fleeting

landscapes and accumulated experiences often return through particular colors. In my paintings, these

memories and emotions emerge through repeated gestures, gradually forming an inner language.

Through repetition, layers of color and texture interact with light, inscribing what I think of as "invisible

writing" onto the surface. Depending on the light and the viewer's perspective, hidden traces, textures, and

shadows quietly reveal themselves. These marks record stories that cannot easily be expressed in words.

I hope that color and texture can move beyond their purely visual qualities and become a form of language

- a silent text that each viewer may read in their own way. My paintings remain open spaces where

personal memories and emotions can be projected and rediscovered.

Ultimately, I hope my work becomes a quiet dialogue between the painting and the viewer, where light,

color, memory, and emotion meet and resonate with one another.
