I’m Gula, also known as Teguh Septian Arifianto, a Visual Artist based in Jakarta. My nickname, Gula (Eng: Sugar), isn’t inspired by the sweet carbohydrate but stands for Gusto Laboratory, meaning the Passion Lab.
I infuse the happiness from this lab into my work, offering a momentary escape for people when they experience my creations. Specializing in illustrations, murals, designs, and crafts across various mediums, I cater to diverse clients.
Gula features an illustrated character that represents me physically. My vivid and illustrative style portrays a slightly eerie, utopian world, hinting at something darker behind the character’s cheerful vibe. I created this alter ego to find harmony amid life’s challenges. Expressing warmth and positive vibes in my art, even with a touch of sadness, is something I deeply value.
